On Wednesday 12th of October we explored the role of design/ecodesign in social enterprises through a collaborative event between us (Ecodesign Centre), Llamau (homeless charity), 2 social enterprises (whose formation is being supported by Llamau) and a mix of designers, social entrepreneurs, managers, illustrators, a policy-maker, a carpenter and a musician amongst others.

Some videos highlighting the challenges undertaken by some of the young social entrepreneurs at the event. You can read more about the Llamau event here.

On Wednesday 12th of October we will be exploring the exploring the role of design/ecodesign in social enterprises through a collaborative event between us (Ecodesign Centre), Llamau (homeless charity), 2 social enterprises (whose formation is being supported by Llamau) and a mix of designers, social entrepreneurs, managers, illustrators, a policy-maker, a carpenter and a musician amongst others. The social enterprises that are being supported in the design process are exploring the ‘regeneration of the Jennings building in Porthcawl’ and a ‘Silent disco’.

The focus is “Designing your business that you believe in”.

The approach is based on 2 teams formed around the 2 social enterprises, 2 Llamau support groups, with a facilitator (for each team) from us, supported by participants from a mix of backgrounds (including design, social entrepreneurship, management, illustration, policy, carpentry and music amongst others) working together to undertake a series of time constrained challenges.

While we are the lead organisers the event is very much a larger collaboration with other support coming from the Welsh Government, Cardiff Design Festival and the Old Library amongst many others. The event is part of the 2-week Cardiff Design Festival 2011 who have been using the venue as a location for a number of events, linking in with the Cardiff Story. The venue is the Old Library, Cardiff.
